About Me

Emma Murphy

I work exclusively with law enforcement, first responders, veterans and their families. My individual clients come to me to work on issues like anxiety, trauma, work stress, home stress, and everything in between. My couples clients come to me to heal from betrayal, the impact of trauma on the relationship, or to improve communication and connectedness.

As the wife of a police officer and veteran, clients can expect to be able to work with someone who understands the culture, lifestyle, pressures, and stressors that come with such high-stress, high-stakes careers. I am trained in the use of Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), a highly effective eye-movement therapy created for the treatment of trauma. I also have advanced training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy (currently on the certification track) and am passionate about working with couples to increase relationship satisfaction and heal past hurts. I offer marathon couples sessions over 1-2 days to increase the success of couples therapy. I also teaches couples workshops with my husband.

Something to know about my approach is:

I rely heavily on evidence-based practices. I believe in people’s innate ability to heal, and I trust science and my own skillset to aid in that process.

My clients describe me as:

Direct, efficient, funny. I am deeply compassionate, and I don’t beat around the bush.

I became a therapist because:

I saw a need, and I wanted to help. Every therapist worth their salt comes with baggage, and I hope that my healing will help others heal too.

Together, we will:

Make a positive change in your life. I live by the mantra “keep doing what you’re doing, keep getting what you’re getting.” I will help you find a different way – a better way – to try to solve whatever you see your problem as.

More about me:

Before all else, I am a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a friend, and so many other things. My husband and I have 3 spectacular sons, 2 of whom have special needs. We love to camp and spend time with our (ridiculous amount of) animals (3 dogs, 2 cats, 1 horse – I am currently training our English Labrador as a service dog, so you may see him around the office). I am an avid crafter and love horseback riding above most things. I am also British. I moved to the USA in 2001, and yes, I still have my accent.

Something that stands out about where I offer therapy is:

It’s in the heart of Burnsville, so there are lots of options for coffee, and it’s across the street from Costco, which has the best gas prices! You may notice some peacock themed items in my office – there’s a reason, feel free to ask.
